No Sleep For Me

Last night I slept a total of one and a half hours. I can't fall back to sleep and this has been happening to me for weeks, maybe months, now. I've had some things weighing on my mind, but it's mostly due to my guts. They wake me. They cause me discomfort and make it hard for me to fall back into slumber. It's really starting to piss me off.

Since I can't sleep, I'll go over a few of the things that I've been doing lately. Just the basic stuff. Friday I went to a show and saw Ozomatli. I'd never even heard of them before I was invited to it that afternoon. I'm extremely glad I went because they have a great mix of musical genres that come together to form an amazing, unique sound. They really respect their fans and this was made apparent at the end of the show. Once they had completed their set the numerous percussionists, along with the rest of the band, came down into the crowd and played some beats amongst everyone. After ten minutes, I may be exaggerating a bit, they then snaked through the crowd and off into the adjacent room for an after-show event. Of course, everyone followed them into the much smaller room so the crowd appeared to double in size. I had already had a toe smashed fairly well from an errant heeled dress shoe, so I was avoided that. I'm definitely going to try and see them at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans. With the rest of the lineup they have there, it should be a great weekend of music.

Saturday was my man Jim's birthday. I was supposed to meet him at the local Greek festival that afternoon, but a combination of factors (along with the lack of sleep) kept me from joining him. I did meet up with the party at our regular bar and proceeded to obliterate our memories for the evening. The night was not such a good one for me as I broke my camera, my baby, my obsession. I went to Best Buy with it, I had purchased a service plan for such occasions, but was told that they wouldn't cover it because I had "abused" it. Why would I abuse something so dear to me? I'm sure there are people out there that get their jollies from breaking electronic equipment and then try to get the retail store from where it was purchased to pay for repairs, but I'm not one of those perverted sickos. Now I've either got to shell out $300 to repair it, or just as much to get a whole new one. I can tell you right now that if they offer me the service plan I'll tell them to shove it up their ass, because it'll do me just as much good up there. I wish I could say more about Jim's b-day, but I missed out on some of it and then the rest is a bit of a blur.

Sunday was the playoffs for my dodgeball team. We lost right away, like we usually do. I seemed to do fairly well, I was able to stay in until I was the only one left. Unfortunately one of those times I was up against the entire other team. I was mercifully pegged in the leg thanks to my leg not getting the message that I wanted it to move out of the way. I think leg wanted out. I'm still trying to figure out if I was left last because I was no good and they didn't feel like I was a threat, or if I can just dodge really well. I would say the latter to boost my ego, but I'm really uncertain about it all. After the game we headed to the park, it was actually a pleasant day to be outside, and played a little football and frisbee. Somehow all those years playing football in backyards and at family picnics finally paid off as I impressed everyone with my beautiful throws. There was the ego boost for the day. It saved me from dwelling on the dodgeball conundrum.

I wish there was more to write about. This sleep thing has me a bit out of it, so I'm not getting too much accomplished. Hopefully, my next post will have more interesting subject matter.
