It's Not Real

Things are finally starting to settle down after moving into the new house. Not everything has been unpacked, but enough of our things have found their new places so it looks a bit more like a home. There is still no cable or long distance calling for us because we're bargain hunting so I'm feeling as though I'm a bit cut off from the rest of the world. The odd thing about that is the few TVs that are on only seem to get NBC and the Olympics, so saying that I'm "cut off from the rest of the world" isn't quite right since I can watch the world compete in each event.
Nothing seems quite right though. Each thing in my life still feels just a bit out of place. The only thing that seems close to normal is driving through rush hour traffic to get to class downtown. I've never had to do that before but it feels like I've been doing it for years. I figured out that in the morning and evening rushes I'm better off taking the car pool lanes to get to where I'm going or else it just takes much too long. I've yet to do this but during both rushes I've seen a total of 3 motorcycles traveling down the specified and partitioned lane for vehicles containing 2+ passengers when a motorcycle only seats 1. I'll follow their example until I get caught and after that I'll probably just use the car pool lane when I'm running late.
The house is the strangest part of this weird dream I'm in. I don't think I'll ever get used to having to drive through a gate in order to get to my street. It seem like I'm living in an affluent neighborhood, but every community is gated. It's not a big deal once you see it. The house still doesn't quite have that "home" feeling. I'm not a pool person, yet we have one. I can look out my window and see a man-made lake with a fountain spewing into the air. It just doesn't seem like I belong in this place. Doesn't fit my style.
I can't complain about the ladies though. Plenty of different types and plenty to choose from. That alone should be enough to help me forget about the oddities I'm faced with each day until I grow accustomed to it.
